HCL Commerce recognized in Gartner Magic Quadrant

HCL Commerce has been recognized again in the Magic Quadrant Report provided by Gartner. 2021 marks the successive year that HCL Commerce has been positioned in the report, and as things stand it will likely position itself as a leader in ecommerce technology. But what is the significance of this report to online retailers?

In this article, we will explore the purpose of the Magic Quadrant Report, its research and its role in identifying the leading digital commerce technology providers. Last but not least, we will discover the reasons why HCL Commerce has been recognized.

What is the Gartner Magic Quadrant?

The Gartner Magic Quadrant (MQ) is a research report that is released annually, containing in-depth analyses and actionable advice that provide insight into different technology markets, its direction, maturity and participants.

Which are the competing players in the major technology markets? How are they positioned to help you over the long haul? The Gartner MQ helps you answer these questions, giving you a wide-angle view of the relative positions of market competitors.

The Quadrant itself is a visual snapshot of the positioning and comparison of vendors/providers in respective categories, which is done based on Gartner’s standard criteria and methodology. Each MQ Report depicts a market using a two-dimensional matrix that evaluates vendors based on their Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute.

You may wonder what technology markets are included in this research. There are numerous categories that are researched, as you can see in here.

Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce

Gartner’s MQ research methodology provides a graphical competitive positioning of four types of technology providers in fast-growing markets: Leaders, Visionaries, Niche Players and Challengers.

While HCL Commerce is present in more than one Magic Quadrant category such as Digital Experience, our focus in today’s article will be its positioning in the Digital Commerce MQ.

The Digital Commerce Magic Quadrant compares the strengths, weaknesses, vision and performance of the full landscape of providers within the ecommerce technology space. This report also provides insight of what’s changed for the major ecommerce vendors and how they have adapted to the challenges and opportunities out there at present.

In essence, application leaders (such as CIOs, CTOs, CDOs, Heads of Ecommerce) should use this research to study the capability of ecommerce providers and to shortlist suitable platforms based on their business/technological needs and goals.

HCL Commerce & Digital Commerce MQ in 2022

Many of the criticisms of ecommerce platforms included in the report were around their limited B2B capabilities. This is an ecommerce area that many vendors are struggling to move into or get right. We have also talked about some of the challenges faced by both vendors and retailers when embarking on B2B ecommerce projects.

Nevertheless, HCL Commerce has already become prominent in its B2B ecommerce solutions, offering features that focus on personalization, flexible shopping, customized pricing & checkouts, and autonomy.

With the last Magic Quadrant report for Digital Commerce compiled in early 2021 and released in August of 2021, there is a distinct possibility that HCL Commerce has positioned itself further up as a leader among ecommerce platform providers.
